Purdy's Jewellery 80th Anniversary
November 16, 2024
Join us as Purdy's Jewellery Celebrates our 80th Anniversary.
"Purdy's Jewellery Store" was started in 1944 by Sheila and Grant Purdy after Grant came home from the war. Grant, a certified watch maker, repaired all of the watches and Sheila looked after the customers.
Sheila and Grant are Marylynn's Great Aunt and Uncle. And Marylynn worked for them at Purdy's during her high school and college years.
Then in 1985, after 41 years of business, Sheila and Grant retired from Purdy's Jewellery.
Knowing that Marylynn continued to work full time in other jewellery stores, they approached Marylynn and asked her to buy the business.
So, in the fall of 1985, Marylynn, along with her husband Dave, bought Purdy's Jewellery.
Over the years, Purdy's Jewellery & Gems has seen many changes.
In 1990, we renovated the store, to focus on Jewellery removing the giftware.
In 2000, we tripled the size of Purdy's by taking over the empty space beside our store.
Dave became a Master Valuer - Graduate Gemologist, GIA and does all of our Appraisals and Gem ID's in house. His gemmological knowledge is invaluable.
Doug Gardner, our Master Goldsmith, has been doing our Ring and Jewellery repairs since 1996. Doug's goldsmithing skills are second to none. As a result, we have customers who travel far to come to Purdy's for his expertise knowing that all repairs are all done on premises.
Over the years, we have had great sales staff who have supported us in all of our endeavors. We wish to thank them for all of their dedication and hard work. We certainly would not be here today without you.
We also want to thank our 2 kids, Brittany and Emily who, have gone onto their own careers but have supported us and have been by our sides every day.
But most importantly, we want to thank you, our loyal customers, who have supported us and Aunt Sheila and Uncle Grant before us.
We are proud to continue the tradition of this family owned business as we Celebrate 80 years of serving you and our community.

Congratulations Lorelei on Your Retirement!
After 23 years of dedicated service at Purdy's Jewellery, Lorelei Franklin-Trelford has retired.
Lorelei started at Purdy's in the fall of 2000. Over the years she was a dedicated, reliable co-worker who continued to grow and develop her skills. She was a pleasure to work with, always had a smile on her face and was positive with every challenge that she met. Our customers sincerely adored her as she always had their best interest in mind.
In her retirement, Lorelei, who is recently married, plans to garden, travel, relax and of course spend time with her new hubby, Johnny.
Purdy's Jewellery (Dave, Marylynn and Darlene) will sincerely miss Lorelei and wish her all the best in her well-earned retirement.
